A Spitfire with a hansom coupé body which made it look like (and gave it the nickname of) a diminutive Jaguar E Type.  Power came from the 95bhp straight six 2 litre engine of the Vitesse (which also saw use, with a longer stroke, in 2.5 litre form in the Triumph TR5 and TR6) which gave it a maxium speed of 105mph (169kph), and a 0-60 sprint of 12 seconds.  Overdrive on top was an option.  In common with the Spitfire range, the standard of trim was good, but when adding the roof Triumph forgot the minor matter of ventilation, which led the cockpit to steam up a lot.  Whilst looking good on paper, putting the heavier and longer six cylinder engine into the Spitfire chassis pushed the capabilities of the chassis to the limit and upset the balance of the car.  The Herald derived rear suspension was just about adequate for the Spitfire, on the nose-heavy and more powerful GT6 it was, erm, interesting .... and stupid !
