The final expression of the line shared styling revisions with the Spitfire IV and, in 1973, it's rear suspension layout too.  Both cars adopted the cut off "boat tail" rear ends, in common with the Stag, the bumper was raised yet further and gained large rubber overriders (Triumph kow-towing once more to Americans rules and regulations) and the bonnet lost the ait vents and some of the raised seams.  Cars for America lost power annually as new emission laws took hold and by 1972 had only 79bhp.   Thus, while a European spec car was good for 112mph/180kph (and 0-60 in 10.1 seconds) the American version managed only 95mph/154kph (and 0-60 in 12 seconds).   Sales fell abroad as a result and looked to fall off further as emission laws bit deeper.  Since American was Triumph's main market, the model was axed at the end of 1973.
